In November, Asus unveiled its official Android 13 update timeline, and the first device to receive it was the Zenfone 9, which was slated to receive the new software in December. That’s what happened today, with several reports coming from Zenfone 9 owners from many countries on Reddit.

We can also confirm that the rollout is in progress as one of our control units has already been updated. Unlike other companies, Asus goes by serial number, not country or territory, so it’s basically luck of the draw – you can’t really predict when you’ll get yours. A manual review might help though, as we got it. There was no notification, but as soon as we manually checked, we updated immediately.

The new build is labeled WW_33.0804.2060.65 and includes the December 5, 2022 security patch level. Asus’ ZenUI has stayed very close to stock Android, especially in appearance, although it does offer some useful additions of its own here and there. Nothing too out of the ordinary, and the overall UI feel is eerily similar to what you’d get on the Pixel.

The changelog is miles long, so we won’t bore you here. However, we will mention that after the update, you will be offered a quick tutorial mentioning some of the new features. It appears to have been created by Google, but can’t say for sure.

It highlights new permissions for notifications, cross-device copy and paste, increased privacy when it comes to apps accessing media, a new media player with a danceable playback bar and full album art display, and the ability to assign different languages to different apps. .

The other Asus devices in the lineup to receive the Android 13 update are the Zenfone 8 and Zenfone 8 Flip, which will receive it next month.
